A Special Moment
Talk about a moment. I was watching the Grammy's last night (I haven't watched for years!) ... and you know the song, "Fast Car", which was recorded by Luke Combs and was a huge hit this year? I'm sure you know, it was a cover of the song done by Tracy Chapman - who wrote and released the song in 1988. Luke was going to perform the song. They started an introduction video that showed all the adoration Luke was getting over the year because of this hit. His crowds (mostly white peeps) were all singing along with him because it's such a famous song. He talked about how he was influenced by Tracy Chapman and how the song was one of the first he learned on the guitar. He recorded this song on a whim. He knew it, all the musicians knew it, and so he recorded it. When I looked into the crowd of the replay of his concert, I was thinking that it was nice that he relaunched it again, but then I also thought, was there any difference to how it was received because he is a white man, whereas Tracy is a black woman? The performance started and the well-known guitar solo was shown with the camera just on the guitar. Then it panned up... and there she was. Tracy Chapman. I just about cried. She's beautiful, just older. Her hair is mostly grey. But instead of Luke just going up there singing it, he sang a duet with Tracy. "A rising tide lifts all boats"... Luke had the grace to include Tracy (who I haven't heard from or seen in years), and instead of taking the glory, he shared it. I realized I needed to maybe step back and review my initial reaction to seeing the intro video, but there's another message I took from it... Who can you give some glory to today? A lot of us have been seeking recognition at work and at life, but look around. Who can you give it to? Reach out and shine a light on someone. Talk well about a friend in their absence. Let us all rise and lift each other up! hashtag#risetogetherhashtag#allyshiphashtag#kindnesshashtag#payitforwardhashtag#greatmusichashtag#greatmomentshashtag#grammyawards
