Happy Lunar New Year

Happy Chinese (Lunar) New Year!

Happy Lunar New Year! As you know, I'm an imposter Chinese person. A new brand. The kind that was born in Canada and looks Chinese but doesn't speak Chinese very well and where western culture is more familiar to me. One of the simple dishes I love making and my family loves is jook/congee. Basically rice soup with ginger and chicken bones, served with sesame oil, soya sauce and a sprinkle of green onion. It's a staple in a Chinese home to use up leftover rice and is good if you just want a simple, yet nourishing meal. In celebration of CNY, I made a pot of this to prepare us for the complexity of the upcoming CNY banquets. You know when you eat a million Thanksgiving meals with all the fixins and all you want is a peanut butter sandwich... on white bread? You cut out all the culinary distractions and focus on simplicity. It's exactly what your tummy and soul need. What could you simplify in your life this week? Where can you cut some distractions to focus on what you really should be focusing on? Where can you ask for help to take some jobs off your plate? In the meantime, go treat yourself to a Chinese meal on this auspicious day! A friend of mine always treats himself to chicken balls with sweet & sour sauce. A great tradition šŸ“· Have a great weekend!
