It's All You

Always look at yourself...

Today's post is a little bit of self-reflection...

I did a public speaking engagement this week to a women's networking group. They were so nice and welcoming and I had a great time (and feel good about my speech...yay!). During the question and answer period, there was a question about why it's so difficult for some women to support women.

I know in my career as an engineer, I always felt like I had to prove myself because I was very often the only woman in meetings. I also had a few experiences going through university that made me feel "less than". But sometimes, when there was another woman in the room, instead of feeling the sisterhood, we felt competitive and were almost looking for each other's failure instead of lifting each other up.

I know that I used to feel that way, but now I don't. At. All.

I find it easy to hype up other people (women or men) and celebrate their accomplishments, no matter how big or small.

So, what's changed?

Definitely getting older and wiser has helped. But not everyone gets wiser as they get older... šŸ˜‚

I feel more self-confident. More self-assured. More "I'm enough".

And I think when your personal bucket is full, it's easy to spill over all that goodness onto someone else.

So, if you're feeling jealous or you don't "feel the love" for someone else, take a look at yourself, because it's all you.

That might sound harsh, but if you're whole inside, you will understand that everyone is doing the best they can at the moment. People who speak unkindly to others, feel some kind of lack within.

Think of the worst thing someone has ever said to you. And now picture someone you love in front of you and imagine saying those words to them.

Doesn't feel good, does it? That's how that person who hurt you felt about themselves.

Extend some compassion. Don't have any buttons to press. KNOW you matter and that you're just fine the way you are.

And when you know that, the world is nothing but love.

Have a wonderful Sunday!

(Photo is me in the garden this afternoon... I was saying, it's just me and my hoe! hehe. I lost my voice this afternoon so it was a great way to get some work done and not have to talk to anyone...)
