Success or Failure?

Success or Failure is just the label we put on an event. I saw a cartoon last week on LinkedIn about someone ascending a stairway. Each step was labelled "FAILURE", and on the top of it was labelled, "SUCCESS". I had an epiphany. Success or Failure are just events that happen to you. We attach the label to it depending on how it makes us feel, but really, they are all learning events. These things popped into my mind: - Success or Failure is really what we do AFTER the event has happened, not the event itself - If we fail to learn and incorporate learnings into our next steps, isn't that the real failure? - If we succeed and then stay on that same level of development, is that considered a failure? It's clear that we need the following: - A North Star - what is your vision? What is guiding you? Only by knowing this will you know where you are on your journey. A vision is usually bigger than a goal, and they are powerful when used together - Support - it really helps to have people believe in you and always cheer for you, no matter how crazy your goal might be. If you want it, you can achieve it. - Self-determination - if you don't have the support you need; keep the idea to yourself. Let your desire grow so big that you can't help but go for it. I ask my clients this question, so maybe it will help you, too. Imagine you're on your death bed. What will you regret not doing? Mel Robbins has a great quote: "I don't understand why everyone is afraid of failing when it hurts so much more to miss out on everything that you dream of because you lack the courage to try."
